Dutch startup turns city icons into urban campsites

AMSTERDAM — This summer, Dutch startup Campspace, turns two city icons into extreme campsites for one night only. The absolute highlight: three climbing tents suspended from the nations’ tallest building at a stunning 330 ft. altitude.

Camping at an altitude of 330 ft., under or on the deck of the Rotterdam Euromast. On July 7, 2018, sixteen adventurers will embark on the adventure of a lifetime at Camp the Night 2018, the largest micro camping festival in the Netherlands. Participants without a fear of heights will sleep at extreme heights in expedition tents, which are hung below the deck at a height of 100 meters. The rest camp on the Euromast itself... Not something you do every day. Campspace’s motto is ‘Camp the world’ - in all its greatness. Environments both urban and rural, altitudes high and low - Camp the Night pushes the boundaries of what is possible for the modern adventurer.

Breathtaking view of Amsterdam

On June 21, during the longest day of the year, ten daredevils camp at an extreme altitude with a breathtaking view of Amsterdam’s skyline. This is the kick-off of the ROEF weekend with the annual Rooftop Festival, Rooftop Symposium and the Rooftop Expeditions from June 22-23, 2018. The night includes dinner and breakfast, a yoga class in the morning and an acoustic performance by one of A'DAM Music School’s rising talents.

Nineteen days camp at twelve hundred meters

To prepare the Euromast campers for the night, The North Face sponsored mountaineer Siebe Vanhee will oversee the event. After nineteen days of climbing and camping at the Torres del Paine in Chile, he knows better than anyone what it’s like to sleep at extreme altitudes in an expedition tent. Furthermore Vanhee will do a talk about his adventures and the documentary Valley Uprising will be shown to the adventurers - all while camping on the deck of the skyscraper. After breakfast, the adventurers get back to ground level on both feet by abseiling down the Euromast.

The Rooftop Camping is organized by ROEF, Campspace and A'DAM Toren. Camp The Night 2018 is an initiative of camping startup Campspace in collaboration with outdoor and sporting goods company Bever.
